Nisha's journey as an educator is rooted in one powerful belief: every child is capable of greatness – sometimes they just need someone to help them see it. For her, teaching is about building curiosity, creating confidence, and showing students what's possible when they believe in themselves.

Nisha teaches third graders at Pinewood Elementary School. Her passion grows from her own lack of experiences as a young student, when she was once told "she wasn't good at math" and would not succeed academically. But everything changed when one teacher believed in her. That moment of encouragement would shape her entire career forever.

Nisha proudly holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a Master's in K–8 Mathematics and Science, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Central Florida. Her dedication has earned her numerous honors, including Pinewood Elementary Teacher of the Year (twice), OCPS Hero Teacher, as well as multiple community and media recognitions. Her impact as a leader in education continues as an 2025-2026 Teacher Ambassador with A Gift for Teaching.

Nisha not only has built a classroom grounded in connection and high expectations; she also leads a STEM afterschool program giving Title 1 school students an opportunity to further explore a different field of study.  She uses her story to remind students, especially those who doubt themselves, that they are capable of far more than they realize.

Since her first year of teaching in 2013, Nisha has relied on A Gift for Teaching to help meet students' needs, ensuring they have access to essential learning supplies and even new clothing. She has seen firsthand how access to these seemingly simple resources can transform a child's experience at school.

What's your favorite part of being a teacher?

My favorite part of being a teacher is witnessing those magical "aha" moments—when a student's eyes light up because something finally clicks.

I love watching my students make smart choices, show kindness, and become the best versions of themselves. Every day, I get to be part of their journey, helping them discover their strengths and believe in their potential.

What would be your top advice to share with a new first-year teacher?

Take time to understand the whole child—their physical, social, and emotional needs—before diving into academics. When students feel seen and supported, they're more open to learning.

Also, give yourself grace. Teaching is a journey, and growth takes time. There will be moments when it feels like you're not making a difference—but trust that you are.

What would you say to fellow teachers about A Gift for Teaching?

A Gift for Teaching is more than just a supply store- it's a lifeline for our classrooms. The resources available allow us to teach creatively, meet our students' needs, and reduce the financial strain that often comes with the job.

If you haven't shopped there yet, you're missing out on an incredible opportunity to enhance your teaching and uplift your students. It's a game-changer and it's there for you.

Outside the classroom, Nisha is a proud parent of two and enjoys reading, running, traveling, and spending time at the beach. No matter where she is, her mission is still the same: to inspire, uplift, and be the teacher who helps students believe in themselves—just as someone once did for her.

Become a Classroom Hero to Nisha's students and many others.

When you become a monthly donor, you give teachers the steady support they need to keep classrooms creative, inclusive, and fully equipped. Your monthly gift of $25 shows up for students for an entire year: supplying confidence, curiosity, and opportunity, three classrooms at a time.
